What are Some Common Toyota Problems?
Toyota. The name's synonymous with some of the most popular and sought-after cars, trucks, and SUVs on the road today -- ideal combinations of capability, comfort, tech-savvy, and affordability.
Even with legendary reliability, though, they're not without their issues. Good thing you came to us here at Toyota of Irving for advice on what to watch out for. Here's a few common problems some popular Toyota models have, and what to do if you run into them.
Toyota Prius: Bad Electronics
Prius is beloved for how dependable it is, how economical it is with fuel, and how roomy. It can have electrical issues from time to time, though, most notably with its infotainment screen. If you're driving one of the hybrids from between 2001 and 2016, one with about 100,000 miles on the odometer these days, you might've already come across them.
The cause: a circuit board with faulty soldering. On the one hand, you can try to get it fixed, taking it in to a certified Toyota service center, but if that doesn't work, you might have to replace the infotainment system.
Toyota Sienna: Faulty Doors
A prime choice of family minivan, Sienna has everything going for it: practicality, safety, capaciousness, and perhaps best of all, great gas mileage. Models from between 1998 and 2015 with a little more than 100,000 miles clocked, though -- they can end up with electric sliding doors that don't work. The culprit: frayed cables, which can damage the door motor. There's no repairing them, really; most likely, you'll have to replace both.
Toyota Camry: Transmission Failure
Some sedans stand out not only for how reliable they are, but also how comfortable and well-equipped they are for being so cost-effective. Camry is ahead of them all. Models from between 1990 and 2017, though, with 85,000 miles, give or take, can hesitate when they speed up, and usually, the automatic transmission's to blame.
The fix can be straightforward: get the software "flashed" or reprogrammed at a Toyota dealer. That doesn't work though, or your car's older and higher-mileage, and you might need a transmission replacement.
